2026 UPDATE

This post was written some time ago and the clinical landscape may have changed. For the most up-to-date information, see: Headache diary (online, mobile-friendly).

Many of my headache patients have difficulty being sure how many headaches they have. Most of the time, this is a simple coping reaction – no-one wants to remember what is painful. However, knowing how many headaches you have is very important for deciding whether you need a form of preventative therapy (prophylaxis) as well as if medication or other measures are working over time. It can also offer a pattern of headaches (to look for triggers) and often will give back a degree of control over the headaches. You can download a 2023 Headache diary HERE.
